Janet Politte és una artista visual establerta als Estats Units. Va començar la seva carrera fotogràfica de forma tardana, practicant-la de manera informal fins al 2017, quan va ser acceptada al programa de Certificat en Fotografia d'Art del Photographic Center Northwest. Va obtenir el seu certificat el maig de 2022 i va participar en l'exposició de tesi a la galeria de Seattle del PCNW. Com a resultat d’aquesta mostra, va ser nomenada artista de la setmana per la revista The Stranger i la seva imatge Crushed es va utilitzar per a la portada de la revista. La seva obra ha estat seleccionada per a nombroses exposicions jurades en galeries durant els anys 2022 i 2023.

STATEMENT

Quatre de les obres aquí presents, Crushed, Wired, Glitch i Inside-Outside, formen part del meu projecte "Pandora's Box". La història de la capsa de Pandora és ben coneguda. Però sovint s’oblida que l’essència del relat no és tant com tots els mals del món van ser alliberats, sinó que, després que la tristesa, el conflicte, el mal i totes les formes de desgràcia escapin i omplin el món al nostre voltant, queda una sola cosa al fons de la capsa: l’esperança.

Però com va preguntar un home mentre s’estava dret a la barana del pont Golden Gate: “Què passa quan obres la capsa i l’esperança no hi és?”

La depressió, la melangia, el patiment emocional entren a la vida de tothom en algun moment. És una realitat inevitable del fet de ser humà. Però existeix un món, un món paral·lel, on hi ha persones que viuen cada dia amb una capsa buida, una capsa sense esperança. No és una condició passatgera, ni una situació que es resol per si sola. És una manera de viure, una existència quotidiana. Una lluita contra un mateix. És una cosa gairebé impossible d’entendre si no s’ha viscut.

Les imatges restants, Peep Show i The Date, van ser preses de manera independent i celebren l’humor que es pot trobar en la nostra vida quotidiana.

STATEMENT

Cuatro de las obras aquí presentes, Crushed, Wired, Glitch e Inside-Outside, forman parte de mi proyecto "Pandora's Box". La historia de la caja de Pandora es bien conocida. Pero lo que a menudo se olvida es que el sentido principal del relato no es cómo todos los males del mundo fueron liberados. Lo importante es que, después de que la tristeza, el conflicto, el mal y todas las formas de desgracia escapen y llenen el mundo a nuestro alrededor, queda una cosa en el fondo de la caja: la esperanza.

Pero, tal y como preguntó un hombre de pie sobre la barandilla del puente Golden Gate: “¿Qué pasa cuando abres la caja y la esperanza no está?”

La depresión, la melancolía, el sufrimiento emocional entran en la vida de todos en algún momento. Es una realidad inevitable del hecho de ser humano. Pero existe un mundo, un mundo aparte, donde hay personas que viven cada día con una caja vacía, una caja sin esperanza. No es una condición pasajera, ni algo que se resuelva por sí solo. Es una forma de vida, una existencia diaria. Una lucha contra uno mismo. Es algo casi imposible de comprender si no se ha vivido.

Las imágenes restantes, Peep Show y The Date, fueron tomadas de forma independiente y celebran el humor que puede encontrarse en nuestra vida cotidiana.

Janet Politte is a visual artist based in the United States. She started her photographic career late in life, pursuing it casually until 2017 when she was accepted into the Photographic Center Northwest’s Certificate in Fine Art Photography program. She was awarded her certificate in May of 2022 and participated in the Thesis Show at PCNW’s Seattle Gallery. As a result of this show she was named the artist of the week by The Stranger Magazine and her image Crushed was used for the magazine cover. Her work has been chosen for many juried gallery exhibits in 2022 and 2023.  

STATEMENT

Four of the works here, Crushed, Wired, Glitch and Inside-Outside, are from my project "Pandora's Box." The story of Pandora’s box is well-known. But what is often forgotten is that the main import of the story is not how all the world’s ills were released upon it. What is important, is that after sadness, strife, evil, and all other forms of misfortune escape and fill the world around us, there is one thing remaining at the bottom of the box: hope.

But, as one man asked while standing on the rail of the Golden Gate Bridge: “What happens when you open the box and hope isn’t there.”

Depression, melancholy, emotional duress, enter everyone’s life at some stage. It is an unavoidable reality of being human. But there is a world, a separate world, where people live every day with an empty box, a box without hope. It is not a transient condition, a self-limited thing. It is a way of life, a day-to-day existence. A struggle against oneself. It is something that is almost impossible to understand if you have not lived it.

The remaining images Peep Show and The Date were taken separately and celebrate the humor that can be found in our everyday lives.
